デューラーについて
アルブレヒト・デューラーは、北方ルネサンスの代表的画家で、ドイツの美術史上、最も偉大な画家と言われ、版画家、数学者でもあります
1471年、ドイツ南部の都市ニュルンベルグに金細工師の第三子として生まれ、父親の指導で絵を描くようになりました。
幼い頃から、父の工房で金細工の技術を磨いたデューラーは、その後絵画に強い関心を持つようになり、15歳の時に地元の画家、ミヒャエル・ヴォルゲムートに三年契約で徒弟奉公に入りました
デューラーの作風の最も大きな特徴は、細部にいたるまでの徹底して緻密な写実的描写ですが、それはこの時代に身につけたものであろうと言われています
実際、ヴォルゲムートは写実的絵画の強い影響を受けていました。 また、後に木版画の傑作といわれる作品を次々と生み出したデューラーですが、その基礎も、木版画の制作を行っていたこのヴォルゲムートの工房で学んだものでした。
こうして、絵画や版画の技法を習得したデューラーは、当時のドイツの風習に従い約４年間の遍歴の旅をし、その後の人生では２度、イタリアへの旅行をしています。
多くの芸術家が集う、芸術の都イタリア。そこでラファエロやベッリーニから大きな刺激を受けたデューラーは、ルネサンス様式とドイツで身につけた技術を融合させ、独自の素晴らしい作風を作り上げました。
デューラーの特徴は、マニアックなまでの細密性ですが、ボタニカルアートの先駆者としても知られています。
イタリア旅行の途中、アルプスを越える際に描いた水彩の風景画は、おそらく西洋で最初に描かれた風景画であるとされ、また独立した自画像を描いた最初の西洋画家だとも言われています。
有名なうさぎの絵には、ＡとＤのイニシャルを組み合わせたモノグラムが描かれていますが、絵画の画面にモノグラムを施したのも、デューラーが最初だったということです。
このうさぎの絵は、あまりにもリアルな毛が話題となり、この毛は１本１本細大もらさず描いたものである、という説が浮上するほどだったと言います。
イタリアから戻ると、デューラーは精力的に版画作品の作成を進めます。
宮廷画家として、版画家として高く評価され大成功を収めた彼の元には、方々から絶えず注文が寄せられたそうです。
大きな名声を得て、ヨーロッパ有数の有名人になっていた彼は、1520年、妻とともにネーデルランドを旅行します。
行く先々で大歓迎を受け、多くの著名人にも会うことができた旅となりましたが、旅行中に病気にかかり、それが元で1528年4月、57年に渡る偉大な芸術家としての人生を終えたのでした。
